| In this tutorial I will teach you how to add your 3D art work to a wallpaper and make it look like its part of it.
Ok since we been working on the Tarutaru module and have the alpha maps for it now.
We going to stick with the same module but creating a different pose.
So open up the Final Fantasy XI Module Viewer and pick these.
- Tarutaru M
- Face: F6-A
- Head: No Equipment
- Body: Tarutaru Kaftan
- Hands: Tarutaru Mitts
- Legs: Tarutaru Braccae
- Feet: Tarutaru Clomps
Now pick the animation/emotions ClpB I stopped mine at 31:43
Now hit Set to MQO and give it a name.
For this tutorial we going to use this wallpaper, but you can use any you like.
Right click here and save as for the wallpaper for this tutorial.
Open up 3D Studio Max 2010 and ready your module using the 1st and 2nd tutorial.
Now go to Rendering (Menu on the top) and Environment, this will open a Environment and Effects box.
Tick Use Map and click on None then double click on Bitmap.
Find the wallpaper and add it

Now close this box we don't need it now.
In material editor click on a blank spear and click standard and then double click on the Matte/Shadow in the next box.
Now add this to the plane.
Now in the top menu click on Views, View Background, show background and then go back and go to viewport background and tick the Use Environment Background, but make sure you got the prospective view highlighted before doing all this.
Now in the prospective view click on the plane then right click on it.
Go to Object properties and tick See-Through.

Now stick a camera on in there and change the prospective view to Camra01.
Now go to Rendering (top menu) and render setup.
Now on the Output Size change to Custom and make sure that the width and height match that of the image.
The width is 1606 pixels and height is 1206 pixels.
Next Move the camera around till you get the prefect angle.
You might have to render camera01 viewpoint to test it and make sure it looks ok.
Once you are happy with the placement, its is now time to add lighting effect.
So go to the lightning effect drop down to Standard and then click on omni, make sure that the Shadows on is ticked.
Also Shadow Parameters needs to be about 0.7
and place this so that it will cast a shadow that matches the shadow direction of the one in the photo.
You might need to use the move icon to move the light around till you got it right, and use render to check it.
Don't worry if you character looks too dark, we can fix that later on.
Once you got the shadow facing the direction you want click on Skylight and tick the box in render Cast Shadows.
Place this light where you can see skylight in the picture, in this case I placed it top left of my character.
Now hit render and you should see your art work come alive.
This will take a long time, so make your self a cup of Windurst Tea while you wait.

you can see the full size here.
